Better Vision with Laser Surgery

If you are suffering from nearsightedness, astigmatism or farsightedness and is sick of wearing contact lenses or corrective eyewear, then laser surgery might be the alternative you have been waiting for. Commonly referred to as LASIK, laser surgery of the eye is a completely non-invasive surgical procedure usually done in an outpatient basis.

The use of contact lenses have been losing popularity in the recent years as a mode of correcting the 3 most common visual impairments because of the health hazards they pose. Having to wear contact lenses and sleeping with these on may actually damage the eyes instead of fixing it. LASIK or laser surgery is a more permanent procedure that requires no hospital confinement after the procedure that may give permanent results.

The procedure is totally safe and requires very minor preparations. Depending on the gravity of your impairment and the length of the use of correctional devices, preparations for the surgery need a period of 3 weeks the least. Also take note that the procedure is done with the patient fully awake most of the time with some chances of the use of sedatives as advised. Liquid anesthetics in the form of eye drops are administered to guarantee a painless procedure.

The procedure is laser guided with the physician operating the machine. To summarize the procedure, a thin flap is sliced in the cornea using laser and then excess tissue is removed. After the successful removal of the extra tissue, the flap is returned to place and the eye is allowed to heal. A retractor is used to immobilize the eye for the procedure. Recovery time vary from patient to patient. The beauty however of such procedure is that you are allowed to regenerate in the comforts of your own home.
